DSTV Delicious International Food & Music Festival earns its Proudly South African accreditation

Almost a year after their first encounter, Proudly SA and the team of the DSTV Delicious International Food & Music Festival sealed their relationship with the handover of the Festival’s certificate of membership to the country’s buy local campaign in Johannesburg today.

The Festival demonstrates the importance that local procurement has in the economy of the country; in this case the local spend in Gauteng to stage the 2 day food and music festival in October last year came to a whopping R30M with an additional R20M spent by festival go-ers.

The benefits to local businesses spread further than exhibitors and food suppliers that enjoyed bumper sales to almost 40 000 visitors, but extended to security companies, stage builders, technicians, ground staff, as well as local accommodation and transport companies.

Said Happy MaKhumalo Ngidi, Chief Marketing Officer at ProudlySA, “This is one of our most special relationships as it is a real example of an organization and team that completely embraced the concept of creating jobs here in SA by using the goods and services of local companies in the execution of the Festival. They bring immense value in every sense to our Campaign.”

Lloyd Cornwall, the creator and founder of the Delicious Festival added, “We are committed to keeping this Festival local. The combined international and local musical line up pulls in the crowds who in turn spend money at the hundreds of food and drink outlets, and all that revenue stays here in South Africa.”

Cornwall will be one of the presenters at Proudly South African’s 7th edition of their Buy Local Summit & Expo, to be held at the Sandton Convention Centre on 14 & 15 March. He will address SMME delegates on 14th March on the subject of alternative access to markets for small businesses through Festivals such as Delicious and other ad hoc and pop up events.
