Marshall Mcluhan, with reference to the life- and societal changing effects of electric light, coined the well-known phrase – “the medium is the message”.  Similarly, Proudly South African is brought to life by its members who espouse the Campaign’s true spirit and set an enviable example as good corporate citizens.  At the end of yet another year, the Proudly South African Board, executive team and staff would like to express their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation towards all members for their support during 2009.  Indeed, members are the Campaign, and with the renewed commitment from our constituencies, including government, the Buy Local campaign is set to fulfill its potential in terms of employment creation and economic growth.

An increase in demand for local products and services, and as a consequence an increase in employment levels has motivated the very successful second Proudly SA Conference and Expo, held in co-operation with Cosatu Western Cape and other strategic stakeholders.


SMME WORKSHOP IN SOWETO WELL SUPPORTED

A two-day business development workshop for SMMEs held in Soweto recently under the auspices of the Department of Economic Development, Trade and Industry (the dti), together with Proudly South African and the Soweto Business Executive Chamber (SOBEC) has met with an overwhelmingly positive response from local entrepreneurs and small enterprises.

CLEAN TECHNOLOGY FUND BOOST FOR SA RENEWABLE ENERGY PLANS, ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY
South Africa’s vision of generating four percent of its electricity from renewable energy by 2013; to improve energy efficiency by 12% by 2015 and to provide one million households with solar water heating over the next five years has received a boost with the endorsement of a Clean Technology Fund (CTF).

The Department of Trade and Industry, together with the industry organisation for the business process outsourcing sector – Business Process Enabling South Africa (BPESA) - partnered to present BPO Week during November.

LOCAL CULTURAL INDUSTRIES SECTOR KEY TO SA IDENTITY

South African arts and culture have been identified as a key mechanism to “promote the cultural diversity of our society and for bringing people together”; “to consolidate community and national pride, positive social values, as well as economic development, including tourism”.   This was amongst the information that President Zuma shared with representatives of the industry at a feedback meeting to this sector initiated by the Presidency during November.


NEDBANK REWARDS GAUTENG EXPORT ACHIEVEMENTS
Nedbank’s commitment to the development of business talent has again been highlighted through the company’s involvement in the JCCI/Nedbank Gauteng Exporter of the Year Competition.  This competition, launched in 2001, focuses on the contribution made by Gauteng businesses in boosting the province’s gross domestic product (GDP) and employment creation through manufacturing and export.

WESTERN CAPE CRAFTERS TO PARTICIPATE IN FRANKFURT TRADE FAIR

Use it by uploading information on your products, services, events or special offers. Update the details of your organisation and upload a low resolution version of your company logo. This will ensure that your logo is automatically displayed on the member product/service search facility on the Proudly South African website. Simply log onto the Members Portal with your unique access code and gain instant access to an entire data base of potential customers – free of charge.
