Proudly South African Nedbank is doing justice to its reputation as a “green bank” by continuously implementing measures aimed at lowering its carbon footprint and reducing wastage of natural resources.
It should, therefore, come as no surprise that Nedbank CEO, Tom Boardman, together with three other prominent South Africans, was recently chosen by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to be South Africa’s Climate Champions.
With the gravity of global warming and climate change weighing heavily on the global community and governments, the Climate Champions will help to promote the fight against climate change, including a reduction in the carbon footprint.
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change conference set to take place in Copenhagen early in December is widely regarded as a potentially groundbreaking intervention in terms of the development of an actionable, affordable and sustainable global response to the challenges associated with this “environmental crisis”.
In preparation of the Copenhagen conference, a number of South African companies, including Nedbank and Energy Indaba 2010 have joined business leaders from more than 500 global companies in signing the Copenhagen Communiqué, urging world leaders to help secure, “an ambitious, robust and equitable global deal on climate change that responds credibly to the scale and urgency of the crisis facing the world today”.
Members of Proudly South African who may be interested in joining the Copenhagen Communiqué and add their voices and support to the energy and climate debate in this manner, or who require more information on this initiative are encouraged to visit www.copenhagencommunique.com |
