South Africa’s first electric car engineered for the consumer market is set to be featured as part of the trade show at the South African Automotive Week in Port Elizabeth between 7 and 10 October 2009.
The Joule, which was developed by Optimal Energy, a local, Cape Town-based company, will feature amongst more than 150 components and automotive industry exhibits.
The introduction of this battery-operated electric vehicle in Europe during October last year was seen as a breakthrough which sets the agenda for Africa to be recognised for its efforts in terms of renewable energy and responsible environmental practices - one of the Proudly South African Campaign’s founding pillars.
This little “Joule” is said to have a top speed of 135km per hour and a range of 300km.
