The Responsible Packaging Management Association of Southern Africa (RPMASA), in the interest of promoting a healthy environment and healthy people, has launched the Sponsor a Happy Drum project.
This was done in support of an initiative of the Department of Health, eThekwini Municipality and other partners – the ‘Safe Drums’ / ‘Umgqomo Ophephile’ project - aimed at supplying virgin drums to informal traders and poor people who frequently use old plastic drums that are contaminated with various chemicals that are detrimental to both human health and the environment.
Companies and individuals are encouraged to sponsor this worthwhile project and help to put a stop to the practice of trading in used, contaminated chemical drums which, if used for storing consumables such as water for drinking and domestic purposes, is potentially hazardous.
Drums for this project will be either pink or natural, and must display the RPMASA logo, the relevant ‘Safe Drums’ wording and the fact that it is sponsored for drinking water only.
Sponsorships vary between R250 for a 210 liter drum (individuals) to R1 000 for a corporate sponsor who wishes to provide a number of drums. All sponsors will be enlisted on the RPMASA website.
