EVERY SWIPE COUNTS!

There is a valuable Proudly South African initiative that has contributed to the improvement of education and society at large since 2004, called MySchool Programme.

According to MySchool, “The MySchool programme acts as a channel which raises and delivers essential funding to schools and charities in order to improve the education and social development in South Africa. This enables members of the community to participate in the future development of our nation in a sustainable way. The programme gives parents and other community minded individuals a vehicle through which to make a meaningful contribution to schools, in a convenient and transparent manner. This is not a donation service, but a true partnership between schools and business partners.”

With education as it’s initial focus this programme has extended to MyVillage and MyPlanet ensuring that charities and organisations caring for animals benefit from the programme as well. The MySchool, MyPlanet and MyVillage brands were created to classify the different organisations that are supported but only one card is used. This card is convenient and easy to use. According to a MySchool supporter, “MySchool effectively facilitates school support on behalf of a range of partners who have a specific interest in education. The fundraising programme is a partnership between business partners, consumer supporter and schools, all striving to create a better future for learners in South Africa. Approximately 600 000 parents and community minded individuals have MySchool Supporter cards.

Supporters use their MySchool Supporter cards whenever they transact with one of the MySchool business partners. A small percentage of their transaction is then allocated to their beneficiary school or charity. All these transactions are recorded and a statement is sent to individual supporters on a monthly basis. The supporter card is not a debit or credit card but serves as a measure through which valuable supporter data, such as transactions and funds raised for a particular school is tracked”.

Apart from thousands of schools that benefit from this card some of the other beneficiaries include Childline, Reach for A Dream, Hospice, SPCA, Animals in Distress and the Endangered Wildlife Trust. Early July 2010, MySchool reported to have raised over R1, 9 million for schools and charities across the country.

MySchool is an effective tool that puts all stakeholders to work in ensuring that a better life is created for all. So do your bit for South Africa and join MySchool today.
