BURSARY FUND OPENS DOORS FOR YOUNG BLACK ACCOUNTANTS

Nonkululeko Gobodo is committed to increase the number of black women in the accounting profession. This passionate Chartered Accountant, and founder of Gobodo Inc, is working hand in hand with Thuthuka Bursary funds (TBF) and the SA institute of charted accountants (SAICA) to make this dream a reality.

A campaign was launched to educate disadvantaged youth of the wide range of career opportunities available within the profession. To address the intimidation aspect of maths and encourage young people to make poor financial literacy a thing of the past, especially amongst the black communities.

“We are pleased to achieve our goal of empowering disadvantage learners, and we believe that as South Africans we should all contribute to the change we wish to see by maturing talent among our young people” Nonkululeko Gobodo said. These bursaries currently fund more than 860 varsity students studying towards becoming Chartered Accountants. Since 2002 the number of black charted accountants has increased to
30 098 registered Chartered Accountants of which 1 539 are black and 703 are coloured.
