BUY GENUINE SOUTH AFRICAN WORLD CUP GOODS
The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) has welcomed the recent seizure of fake Bafana Bafana jerseys, T-shirts and caps at OR Tambo International Airport. The union movement has also congratulated the vigilant Customs Officers who had discovered and confiscated the counterfeit goods.
Proudly South African, too, encourages vigilance and sensitivity amongst all South Africans regarding the purchasing of products and services that are not clearly defined as homegrown.
COSATU’s stance is further entrenched by the belief the first World Cup in Africa should not only be a great historic event in itself. It must also leave a legacy of new jobs. The clothing and textile industry has already been hit hard by the recession and the flood of cheap imports from China and elsewhere.
The 2010 tournament ought to be creating new opportunities for the sector and new jobs in manufacturing genuine World Cup merchandise.
“The campaign against illegal imports of fake good should be linked to the Proudly South African Campaign and the decision of the Jobs Summit to urge everyone to buy South African-made goods and save and create South African jobs,” Cosatu National Spokesperson, Patric Craven, confirmed.
