TREASURY INVITES BUDGET TIPS

The Ministry of Finance has invited all South Africans to send through their tips on what they think government’s spending priorities should be.

Run throughout the year, the campaign ensures active participation in government programmes, especially matters related to the economy.

Through the campaign the public gets an opportunity to send their tips to Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan. This is in line with government’s commitment to public participation and assists in ensuring that government spending is in accordance to what is expected from the South African public. It gauges issues including education, social services, health, job creation and taxes.

Tips can be sent to Minister Gordhan via the Treasury website www.treasury.gov.za or by fax - (012) 315-5126. It can also be posted to Private Bag X115, Pretoria, 0001 or to Minister Pravin Gordhan’s fan page on Facebook.

The annual Budget Speech, which is scheduled to take place on 17 February 2010, is a roadmap indicating what aspects of life in South Africa has been prioritised by government in terms of financial resources.
