WORLD CLASS SUMMIT IN SA TO ALLEVIATE POVERTY
History was made on July 7th when a major sporting event hosted a political summit in Cape Town. The 1GOAL Education Summit has created a platform for world leaders to discuss how they will achieve the 1GOAL of providing education for every child by the next FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
The 1GOAL EDUCATION FOR ALL campaign was officially launched on the 6th of October 2009, seizing the power of football to ensure that education for all will be the lasting legacy of the 2010 World Cup. Focusing on education for all especially for those children from the poorest backgrounds.
The South African government believes that this project will enable 72 million African children who do not attend primary school currently to do so, if it is implemented successfully. President Jacob Zuma on the 6th of June 2010, urged all the nations of the world and the private sector internationally to support this campaign. The President also outlined that this is a goal of quality education as well as the key to genuine freedom. His wish is that this campaign will be achieved without delay since education is the most tangible and sustainable form of empowerment.
The South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) is committed to work together with government to ensure that the graduating class of 2015 will be different from the graduates of 2010 and are willing to discuss ways of how teachers can contribute to the development of quality education.
The 1GOAL Campaign is bringing together footballers, fans, charities, corporations and individuals to lobby and achieve our ambition as the nation and aim of education for everyone. By joining the 1GOAL team, you can strengthen the campaign’s voice and give the nation the best possible chance of success.
As Proudly South African members and proud citizens of this country let us add our voices and support to this campaign. As we all have 1GOAL in life, let us help others to achieve prosperity too. Go to:www.join1goal.org/about-1GOAL.php.
