KEITH CALDER’S ‘PENALTY’ MAKES FIFA WORLD CUP HISTORY

LoveDaliah Bambo and Anne Sengadi of the Proudly South African Campaign
recently attended the unveiling of Keith Calder’s ‘Penalty’ in Johannesburg.

Keith Calder’s Bronze entitled ‘Penalty’ and part of the first-ever 2010 African Fine Art Collection, will soon join the sculpture of former president Nelson Mandela in Nelson Mandela Square as part of the legacy left by the 2010 FIFA World Cup™.

The sculpture, as well as the rest of the 2010 African Fine Art Collection are set to take their place as a prominent part of South African and African fine art history – representing a groundbreaking venture using this platform to also promote the depth of African fine art talent.

This is the first time in the 80-year history of the FIFA World CupTM that FIFA has licensed a Fine Art Collection on this scale.

The foundation of the 2010 International Fine Art Collection is as follows: 160 leading contemporary artists are being invited from all 32 countries that have qualified for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ to create a unique work of art for inclusion in the Collection. This will result in 160 individual original paintings highlighting the passion and excitement of the FIFA World CupTM, through art.

Each artist has been invited to interpret a general artistic theme in their own creative fashion, drawing her or his inspiration from the African continent, the excitement of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™, and their country’s own national pride.

In cooperation with international gallery partners, the complete 2010 International Fine Art collection will be launched in May 2010 through a series of global exhibitions in leading art cities around the world.
