COMPETITIVE SUPPLIER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME BOOSTED

The Competitive Supplier Development Programme (CSDP), an initiative of the Department of Public Enterprises, the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) and the Department of Science and Technology (DST), in partnership with other organisations, such as the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (Unido), aims to increase the participation of local companies in major procurement opportunities.

This initiative recently received a boost with the launch of the DST’s Technology Localisation Programme (TLP), through which 28 local foundries would be provided with technology assistance packages. This is set to boost their capacity to acquire contracts and create new employment opportunities.

The DST would, through the TLP, assist local companies in developing their technological capabilities, and enable these foundries to use these capabilities to leverage procurement opportunities from the infrastructure-build programmes of State-owned enterprises such as Eskom and Transnet.
