CLOVER MAMA AFRIKA – SEWING FOR SUSTAINABILITY
The Clover Mama Afrika project is growing from strength to strength, promoting quality and sustainability which are key values endorsed by the Proudly South African Campaign. Recently two groups totalling 16 trainees from 16 Clover Mama centres took part in an intense two-week sewing course with Bernina RSA.
The Mamas’ commitment to learning is truly remarkable, with beginners in this instance learning to sew and creating a track suit, jacket and skirt within only three days. Grasping these skills enables the Mamas to go back to their communities and to replicate the quality and variety of products which makes it possible for them to generate a higher income at a faster pace.
An advanced quilting course by Doortjie Gersbach in Montagu has also met with great success, with trainees outdoing themselves and mastering advanced skills. For more information on this deserving programme, contact Prof ElainVlok, at +27 11 471 1527
