“Moja morago ke kgosi.” This Setswana proverb which translates as “He who eats/completes last is king” rings very true during these unprecedented times of the Coronavirus pandemic. As the continent that was affected last by COVID19, Africa was able to learn from the different responses offered by other governments around the world to the virus, enabling South Africa as a country to prepare for the rise in the number of cases over the weeks and months.
The path that South Africa chose was a difficult one, but we hope that ultimately it will have contributed to the preservation of many lives that might otherwise have been lost.
Given the fact that our economy had already weakened before the lockdown, we can no longer sustain the most severe of lockdown levels and the recent announcement by the President of a further easing of level 3 has been welcomed by many.
However, because we still have not totally flattened the curve and are yet to experience a peak in cases, the opening of our economy requires us to be even more vigilant, and take extra care in avoiding and containing the virus.
At Proudly South African, we have decided to take a staggered approach to welcoming our staff back to our offices in Rosebank. We have ensured that the office adheres to hygiene and distancing regulations and are being extra careful with staff members who have indicated to us that they have underlying medical conditions. We urge all of our member companies to – where possible – allow their staff to work from home for as long as they can. If you cannot, please ensure that you adhere to the safety and hygiene regulations as set by our government.
As you may know by now, Proudly South African has launched three portals which it is hosting on our usual website www.proudlysa.co.za where essential locally made Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) can be purchased. We have a portal for fabric masks, one for sanitisers as well as one for surface detergents and disinfectants. As you ensure that you comply with the health and hygiene regulations, we encourage you to support these companies and source all your requirements on our site.

As our shopping habits change under the ‘new normal’ and online shopping grows in popularity, please remember to list your product or service on our B2C and B2B e-commerce platform, www.rsamade.co.za . You can register as a vendor by visiting their site.
We hope that you all managing to survive these difficult times, and that you have found new ways of trading, if the old ways no longer apply. Please look out for our series of webinars that we will be launching to replace our usual events calendar, and tune in to as many as you can.
We welcome any contributions from our member companies. If you have any milestones, achievements, events or sales you would like us to highlight in the newsletter, please contact us. We appreciate all feedback on the members’ newsletter. For any contributions please email [email protected].
Sincerely,
Eustace Mashimbye
